Why I would be a good fit to be your midwife:
You want wrap-around, 24/7 all inclusive midwifery care through your entire journey through pregnancy, home birth or birth in a unit, and parenting in those crucial early weeks and months.
You need a midwife with decades of experience and who is confident in all aspects of your pregnancy, birth and beyond care. This includes a deep understanding of what you in your body need to birth in peace, power and love.
You are looking for a highly skilled midwife, including breech birth, twins, extensive up to date knowledge of medical complexities and, crucially, the ability to explain them (years of University teaching….).
You put your psychological and emotional support rights first, because I will too.
You want support to feel safe, nurtured and protected at your undisturbed birth. You value love, light and laughter in your birth space.
You may need strong and effective advocacy, support and professional facing co-ordination if you want obstetric and other medical input.
You want my family inclusive care, valuing all parents equally and supporting positive experiences in the transition to a new parenthood.
Why another birth worker might be the one for you:
If you want support with just one aspect of midwifery or maternity care.
You are happy with the free care available with the NHS in general and just want to be absolutely sure you have an brilliant midwife you have met at your home birth. This is an excellent reason to choose an IM, but it’s not what I offer! I’m always very happy to be contacted to give recommendations to other local birth workers and help you find the team YOU need.
About Me
hello, I’m Dr Phoebe pallotti Rm!
I have been a qualified midwife for over 18 years. I have worked in many midwifery roles in large teaching hospitals and small district hospitals and I have spent several years working abroad, mostly in Africa. I am also a trained doula (with the fabulous Red Tent).
With my other hat on, I have a PhD in public health (hence the ‘Dr’) and I research pregnancy and infant health to support better care in the UK and around the world, which you can read more about here.
I am able to provide all the midwifery care you will need, you do not need to access NHS services as well, but if you chose to do so I am very happy to collaborate with your wider care circle and I have have established good working relationships with many Yorkshire and other maternity units.
Both my practice and my research have been born in a desire to improve social justice and rights-based care in birth. I want to be useful in discussing your pregnancy and birth journeys with you and your family, but you are the people who should decide what you want and need. All decisions should start and end with you. I will always tell you my professional opinion and then I will advocate for and defend all your decisions to make sure you are fully empowered and your journey to this parenthood is positive and nourishing.
I have worked with many queer, trans and found families (as my family also is!) and I have over a decade of experience in active allyship in anti-racism in pregnancy and birth services. I really get intersectional inequalities. I am also very keen to work with neurodiverse families (again, as is my family) to support positive birth experiences that work for you.
I am very happy just to chat, if you are not sure if an independent midwife is right for you or if you would like recommendations to other midwives, doulas or any of the fabulous pregnancy support organisations in South Yorkshire and beyond.
If you live outside of my steading of Yorkshire and the North Midlands please do email and we can discuss if care from me would be useful, given travelling times. I have a fairly wide geographical range!
